CAIRO – 8 March 2019: Two Egyptian fishermen, who were detained in Tehran over accusations of entering Iranian territorial water illegal, were released on Thursday, said Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a statement.

The two fishermen were on board of Emeriti ship and entered illegally into the Iranian territorial water.

The Egyptian diplomatic mission in Tehran provided legal assistance and paid a fine for the release of the two nationals.

Early February 2019, five other fishermen were released by the Iranian authorities after being held for several weeks over straying into the Iranian territorial water since December 2018, according a statement from the Egyptian Foreign Ministry.
