CAIRO – 7 March 2019: Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry affirmed Wednesday that Egypt will continue to fight terrorism with its ‘Arab brothers’ until they eliminate terrorism completely.

He added during his speech in the 151st session of the Council of Arab Foreign Ministers, held in the Arab League, that there is a necessity to develop the Arab mechanism to combat terrorism.

Shoukry also stressed Egypt’s full support of the Palestinian people and their legitimate rights. “It is not allowed or accepted anymore to see bloodshed due to political conflicts,” Shoukry stated.

He noted that there are Arabian efforts to get the Syrian conflict back on the negotiation table.

Regarding the Libyan situation, Shoukry underlined the importance of conducting presidential and parliamentary elections, along with unifying the country’s army to counter armed and terrorist groups.

“Were the wasted blood and resources not enough to prove that there is no military solution to the crises in Yemen?” Shoukry wondered, affirming that there is no other alternative than going to the negotiation table.

On Tuesday, Shoukry met with the Tunisian and Algerian foreign ministers to discuss the Libyan conflict. Tunisian Minister Khamis al-Johainawy and Algerian Minister Abdel Kader Mosahel asserted their commitment to backing Libya and its people in that critical phase of its history.

The ministers added they would help in achieving national reconciliation in a way that reinstates security and stability in the entire country, affirming their support to Libya’s territorial integrity, unity, independence, and sovereignty.

The ministers stipulated their rejection of any foreign intervention in the country as that further complicates the crisis and cripples the whole political process.
