CAIRO - 5 March 2019: The Administrative Prosecution Authority referred to court 16 defendants who are officials at local real estate tax directorates for collecting less revenues by LE130 million and manipulating the value of the units.

The defendants include three chairpersons of real estate tax authorities of New Cairo’s Third Settlement and Fifth Settlement, settlements department head in charge of both neighborhoods, four tax agents, interconnection department head; three administrative employees, two cashiers; a public relations researcher; and an investigations department head.

One of the former authority chairpersons along with the others formed evaluation committees in a way that contravenes the rules in order to forge documents and come up with tax values that are not real.

After the breaches had unraveled, a committee was formed and succeeded to collect LE124 million.
