Grand Imam of Al-Azhar greets Sisi, Armed Forces marking 10th of Ramadan Victory

CAIRO – 5 June 2017: The Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Sheikh Ahmed al-Tayeb extended greetings to Egypt’s president and commander-in-chief and the Egyptian people Monday on the anniversary of the 1973 10th of Ramadan victory, when the Egyptian Army successfully crossed the Suez Canal in the face of fierce resistance from its Israeli adversaries.

Al-Tayeb asserted that the Egyptian army has been standing as a protective shroud for Egypt during times of war and peace. He added that Egypt now wages a war no less ferocious, and is exerting more efforts to combat terrorism and extremism.

The Sheikh called on all Egyptians from all walks of life to stand by the army, while stamping out terrorism in order to maintain Egypt’s safety and security. He also urged Egyptians to aspire to the brave spirit of the Egyptian soldiers who fought during that war.

The spokesperson of the armed forces, Tamer al-Rifi posted photos of the celebration on Facebook.

Meanwhile, Egypt's Grand Mufti Shawki Allam greeted President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi during th celebrations.

“The unity between all factions f Egyptians during the 10th of Ramadan War was the main reason behind the armed forces’ victory,” Allam said. “This spirit is exactly what we need now in order to reach an integrated social, political and economic development.”
