CAIRO – 27 February 2019: Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry praised the economic reforms that are being implemented in Egypt, stressing that President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi is the right leader for the current phase amid continuing threats to the country's security and stability.

In an interview with CNBC channel at the EU-Arab League Summit in Sharm El-Sheikh, the minister added that the president has been successful in establishing security, stability, and economic progress in Egypt.

Shoukry also mentioned several major investment projects, including the construction of new cities and transportation infrastructure for Egypt's growing population.

Regarding the constitutional amendments, Shoukry said that discussions are being held on the matter, affirming that the amendments will not pass without the approval of two-thirds of the parliamentarians and a subsequent referendum.

Shoukry clarified that Egypt needs to continue working to combat terrorism which attacks the army and civilians, explaining that the security forces have exerted extensive efforts to protect our country. In general, terrorism remains a phenomenon that threatens the world, and it needs more cooperation from the international community.
