CAIRO – 03 June 2017: Prime Minister Sherif Ismail will meet with a number of governors on Saturday to discuss the topic of state land reclamation from squatters, Minister of Local Development Hesham al-Sherif said. He stressed that the final report on the topic will be handed over to President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi in the coming days.

Al-Sherif announced in a press conference that the state property enclosure ended on May 30, but the government is currently revising all the reclamation reports. He pointed out that the land reclamation process is still ongoing. “We will not allow anybody to steal or encroach on the state-owned property”, al-Sherif added.

In May, President al-Sisi ordered the army and police to investigate land encroachments and reclaim illegally acquired state lands. Some governorates have been declared squatter-free, including Cairo, Sharqia, New Valley, Gharbia, the Red Sea, Ismailia and Qena; the first squatter-free governorate in Upper Egypt.
