CAIRO – 2 June 2017: The Coptic Orthodox Holy Synod headed by Pope Twadros II, said that the Church will continue to adhere to its historical obligation to preserve peace in the community. "These events will only lead us to the path of love for all our partners. There are no virtue and no benefit to us if we do not love all without distinction” said the Holy Synod in a statement on Friday following its annual session.

The Holy Synod also expressed its pride in the martyrs of the Church. It decided to commemorate the martyrs and the wounded by documenting their stories. Furthermore, it announced February 15th, the day of Christ's entry into the temple, as an annual day to remember all martyrs.

The Holy Synod valued the families of the martyrs and the wounded, and commended their forgiveness and love in all events. The statement reads that the true Christian loves life and does not fear death. A true Christian does not abandon love, and demands justice and full citizenship in accordance with the Constitution and laws.

It also mention that the crisis management committee of the Holy Synod played a vital role whether during the events or in following up with the families to respond to their needs in coordination with the concerned authorities.

The Holy Synod is the highest representation within the Coptic Orthodox Church. It is headed by Pope Twadros II and meets twice a year, except in emergency situations. Friday’s meeting was attended by 109 bishops of the Coptic Orthodox Church the Patriarchal Vicars of Cairo and Alexandria.
