CAIRO – 6 January 2019: Minister of Endowment (Awqaf) Mokhtar Gomaa said Saturday that by inaugurating the Grand Mosque in the New Administrative Capital and the Cathedral in the New Administrative Capital, President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi has set an example to the world in spreading religious tolerance.

Egypt has shown its leading role in spreading religious and humanitarian tolerance, the minister said, adding that Egypt, and in particular Sisi’s action, has shown that the country treats all citizens equally and does not favour its majority or minority.

Praising the ability for Egyptians to coexist and the friendliness between people with different beliefs, Gomaa said that 2019, for him, is Egypt’s year of humanitarian and religious tolerance.

In similar vein, while extending his Christmas wishes to Pope Tawadros II of Alexandria, Hussein Zein, the Head of the National Media Authority (NMA), expressed the importance of the positive efforts exerted by the Pope in bringing together Muslims and Christians and increasing the tolerance between the followers of the two religions, according to a NMA statement on Saturday.

It is worth noting that the authority has been working on maximizing the positive role that the Egyptian media plays in increasing tolerance between the followers of different religions in Egypt, as well as enhancing respect between different beliefs. To do this, the media has worked to correct possible misconceptions and denounce violence and extremism, explained the statement.
