CAIRO - 2 January 2019: Deputy Minister of Social Solidarity Nevine el Qabbag said on Tuesday that beneficiaries from Takaful and Karama social protection program have exceeded 2.2 million families.

In a statement, Qabbag noted that 50-100 thousand beneficiaries are expected to be added in 2019.

A request has been made to increase monetary support in the new budget from EGP 17.5 billion to EGP 18 billion, she added.

Meanwhile, the official revealed that there are 640 institutions serving people with special needs, of which some are run or supervised by the social solidarity ministry.

Qabbag noted that all people with special needs will get health insurance.

Last week, President Abdel Fattah El Sisi issued directives to the government to implement a set of measures to provide more support and care to people with special needs.

Addressing a celebration marking the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, Sisi ordered expanding the participation of people with special needs in international artistic, cultural, social and sports activities.

The president also decided that Egypt's Olympic, international and continental medalists with special needs would receive financial awards equal to ordinary athletes in their categories.
