NEW YORK - 29 December 2018: UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura warned of the possibility that Daesh terrorist group would consolidate its positions in Syria after the US forces’ planned withdrawal from the country.

RT channel on Saturday quoted de Mistura, who is set to end his tenure in early 2019, as saying that the US decision to withdraw its troops from Syria will strike a blow against Kurds in the first place.

Kurds are a very important formation in Syria, and under no circumstances should we ignore it, the UN envoy said.

De Mistura noted that the US can continue its participation in settling the Syrian crisis through diplomatic action.
