Uruguay President to meet Al-Azhar’s Ahmed al-Tayeb

CAIRO - 1 June 2017: Uruguay President Tabaré Vázquez visited Al-Azhar on Thursday and was set to meet with Ahmed al-Tayeb, Al-Azhar Sheikh.

The meeting is expected to tackle potential partnerships between Egypt and Uruguay.

“I appreciate the role of Al-Azhar in maintaining a peaceful culture and spreading it worldwide and excluding racism and all types of violence and terrorism,” says Vázquez in a released statement by the State Information Service.

President of Uruguay has met with President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi on Wednesday, where they discuss economic cooperation between both countries and efforts to combat terrorism.

The meeting with Sisi also tackled the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with the Common Market of South America, that includes several countries such as Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay, and Venezuela, Egypt Today previously reported.
