10 Education Min. Takes measures against law violating schools

CAIRO - 22 December 2018: After the death of a student, Abdelrahman Mohamed Darwish, and the injury of many others, in addition to emotional distress for those who were present at the time, as a result of a wall falling down at a school, the Ministry of Education have taken 10 key measures to deter other schools from breaking the law and holding them accountable.

These are:

1- Put the school under the financial and administrative supervision of the ministry.

2- Closing the offending building in the school which caused the incident.

3- Punishing a number of educational officials headed by the Director of the Department and its agents and the Director of private Education in Al-Marj.

4- A decision for the Ministry to bear the cost of treating hospitalized students in hospitals.

5- Compensation for the family of the student who died as a result of the fence falling.

6- Documenting all unlicensed schools in the country.

7- Closure of any school that violates ministerial decisions.

8- Follow-up procedures and licenses of schools and ensure compliance with the controls set by the ministry.

9- Signing punitive sanctions on non-compliant schools.

10- Intensifying follow-up committees during the coming period to monitor violations of private schools.

Minister of Education Tarek Shawky has suspended the General Director of Al-Marj Educational Administration, the Under-Secretary of Administration and the Director of Private Education until an investigation is conducted on whether the school notified the concerned parties about the state of the wall and took the necessary cautionary measures for the students' safety.

The unfortunate incident led to the death of one student, Abdelrahman Mohamed Darwish, and the injury of many others, in addition to emotional distress for those who were present at the time.

The deceased boy and the injured were taken to a nearby hospital.

Although the full details of the incident have not yet been declared, as the investigations are still underway, the ministry has taken a set of actions to ensure that those who are responsible are held accountable.
