ABU DHABI - 16 December 2018: Arab League Secretary General Ahmed Abul Gheit said Australia's announcement to recognize West Jerusalem as capital of Israel is "alarming" because it contradicts with the international law and permanent rights of the Palestinians.

In statements on the fringe of his participation in a conference on "Digital Economy in the Arab region", Abul Gheit said the recognition of West Israeli as capital of Israel along with a negligence of recognizing East Jerusalem as a capital of Palestinian is a clear bias towards the Israelis against the Palestinians and their rights.

He termed as "very alarming" the Australian situation and urged the government of Australia to rectify its position and recognize East Jerusalem as a capital of the Palestinian state to strike a balance in its situation.
