CAIRO - 16 December 2018: Egypt expressed concern over the current Israeli escalation in the occupied Palestinian territories including raids by Israeli troops in separate areas in the West Bank.

In a statement, the Foreign Ministry warned of possible repercussions of this Israeli escalation.

It called for halting such acts, which could lead only to more deterioration, that, in turn, undermines efforts exerted to revive the stalled peace process.

The statement renewed Egypt's support for Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and the Palestinian leadership.

It also reiterated Cairo's firm stance toward the Palestinian cause and the Palestinian people's rights including setting up an independent state with Al Quds as its capital.

The foreign ministry asserted that Egypt continues its intensive contacts to bring this escalation to a halt.
