FILE: Susanna Terstal As EU Special Representative for the Middle East Peace Process.
CAIRO - 5 December 2018: The European Union's Special Envoy to the Middle East Susanna Terstal arrived in Cairo on Wednesday, Dec. 5 to meet with a number of Egyptian officials.
Terstal studied in the Netherlands, USA and Italy and served as Netherlands' ambassador in Iran and Angola.She then joined the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1994 and held several positions in the Legal Department of the ministry.Also, Terstal was appointed deputy permanent representative in Geneva.
In September, the EU emphasized in a statement that it has no intention of reducing the current level of funding or changing its policy regarding the peace process in the Middle East, but rather, to "hear the positions" of both parties regarding obstacles to peace and the implementation of the two-state solution.
The statement added that the EU "remains firmly committed" to the two-state solution as the "only realistic solution" to a fair and lasting peace.
