CAIRO – 13 October 2018: Head of the European Union Delegation to Egypt Ivan Surkoš said that Red Sea cities and Siwa Oasis are his most favorable spots in Egypt.

In statements to Egypt Today on Wednesday, Oct. 10, Surkoš added that he admires swimming near to coral reefs in the Red Sea, describing it as "wonderful".

He said that the European Union will participate in several developing projects in Siwa, including financing Shali Castle restoration after being ruined by rains, offering jobs for locals and building museums for tourists.

Also, a new medical center financed by the EU is expected to be built for Siwa residents, according to the Surkoš’ statements.

Previously, Surkoš and 14 other ambassadors visited Siwa with Minister of Tourism Rania al-Mashat and Minister of Antiquities Khaled al-Anany. The officials visited several historical places in Siwa including Shali Castle, Amun Temple and the mount of the dead.

Siwa is an urban oasis in Egypt's Western Desert, nearly 50 km east of the Libyan border, and 560 km away from Cairo. It is one of the most beautiful places in Egypt and a natural healing spot.
