Military court sentences 17 to death in churches attack case

CAIRO – 11 September 2018: Alexandria military court issued on Thursday verdicts in case 165/2017 whereby 17 defendants had been sentenced to death while 19 others received life sentences and eight received 15-year jail terms over church attacks.

Two more defendants were also handed down 15 and 10-year jail sentences for being implicated in attacking Boutrosia church in Abbasiya where 29 worshippers were killed, Mar Gerges church in Tanta where 27 people were killed and St Mark in Alexandria where 18 people died.

The convicts were charged with possessing automatic guns and explosives in the terrorist attacks which left 82 people dead.
