CAIRO – 27 May 2017: Italian Foreign Minister Angelino Alfano stated Saturday that Egypt has offered a lot of information to the prosecutor general in Rome concerning the murder of Giulio Regeni, 28-year-old doctoral student from Cambridge, who died in Egypt.

The foreign minister further stressed that Italy will only be satisfied with the truth, Italian news agency Aki stated, quoting Alfano.

“Italy will pursue till the end the murder case of the Italian doctoral student, Giulio Regeni, who died in Egypt last year,” Alfano stated.

Cairo had handed the first volume of documents requested by the prosecution in Rome to an Italian delegation visiting Egypt, on May 17, following a meeting with Egyptian Attorney-General Nabil Sadek and other Egyptian officials.

Regeni’s death has soured relations between the two countries, ever since the body of the Ph.D. student was found with signs of torture on a highway in February 2016. The Italian ambassador has not returned to Cairo since April 2016.
