Azhar expresses deep sympathy with Indonesia after quake, tsunami

CAIRO - 4 September 2018: Grand Imam of Al Azhar Ahmed el Tayyeb expressed support to and deep sympathy with Indonesians after a killer earthquake and tsunami that hit the Island of Sulawesi on Friday.

In statements on Thursday, Tayyeb asserted his confidence in the ability of the Indonesian people to overcome this calamity.

He offered heart-felt condolences to the Indonesians over the victims of the disaster.

At least 1,424 people are so far reported to have died from the 7.5 magnitude earthquake and subsequent tsunami that hit the Indonesian island on Friday. At least a further 2,500 have been injured and more than 100 are still missing
