CAIRO – 26 May 2017: The head of Protestant Churches in Egypt, Andrea Zaki condemned a deadly terrorist attack that targeted a bus carrying Copts Friday, leaving at least 28 dead, including children, according to a statement.

In his statement, Zaki denounced “all criminal and terrorist acts targeting innocent people, threatening the nation’s peace,” describing them as “desperate attempts to instill fear in the country.”

He added that such “coward and fragile” attacks will not undermine the stability of the country nor Egyptians readiness to fight terrorism.

Zaki concluded his statement by offering his condolences to Egyptians as well as Christians in particular and Pope Tawadros II of Alexandria for the victims of the deadly attack, wishing a speedy recovery for those injured.

Unknown armed men in three vehicles opened fire on Friday on a bus heading to St. Samuel Monastery in Minya governorate. A police hunt has been launched on the Western Desert Road in an attempt to apprehend the perpetrators.

President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi held a security meeting to discuss the Minya attack, directing the cabinet to take all required measures in order to treat the injured.
