Shoukry urges foreign ministry’s ambassadors to raise Egyptian interests

CAIRO – 9 September 2018: Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry met Sunday with the foreign ministry’s ambassadors to urge them to make every effort to protect Egyptian interests during the coming period, according to presidency spokesperson Bassam Radi.

According to Radi’s statement, Shoukry thanked foreign ministry’s deputies for their efforts in several fields for achieving the country’s goals, affirming the important works between Egypt and different countries around the globe, particularly focusing on the framework of the independence of the Egyptian decision and Egypt's important regional role.

At the end of the meeting, a discussion was held between the Minister of Foreign Affairs and members of the Ministry on a number of foreign policy issues, as well as issues related to the working methods of the Ministry and ways to develop them to enhance the ability of the Foreign Ministry to perform its tasks.

Shoukry congratulated the ambassadors who were transferred to work at the head of the diplomatic missions abroad upon the decision of the President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi; the decision was issued at the end of last August, a statement reported.

In August, President Sisi ratified the Foreign Ministry's decision to promote 199 key diplomatic officials at the ministry and various Egyptian missions abroad to high-level positions. The decision included the promotion of 16 ambassadors, including ambassadors of Egypt to Kuwait, Brussels, Ethiopia and Saudi Arabia, to the rank of diplomat par excellence, and the promotion of 25 ministers to the rank of first ambassador.
