CAIRO –23 May 2017: Lawyer Khaled Ali was ordered detained Tuesday for 24 hours over charges of committing “shameless and disgraceful act” following a complaint filed by lawyer Samir Sabry.

Ali, ex-2012 presidential candidate, reportedly made an offensive finger gesture last January outside the State Council courthouse, celebrating the ruling to reject the transfer of Red Sea islands of Tiran and Sanafir to Saudi Arabia.

Ali made the indecent move following the verdict, when the government's appeal against the invalidity of the Convention on Maritime Demarcation was rejected on January 16, 2017.

Dokki prosecution ordered his detention Tuesday for one day.
