CAIRO – 19 August 2018: After reports emerged about several swamps of termite attacked Upper Egypt’s cities of Luxor and Aswan, an emergency state was immediately called out to address the threat before it becomes more sinister.

Prime Minister Sherif Madbouli gave strict orders to the relevant ministries and parties to quickly intervene to take preventive measures in the face of such threat, according to media report.

As per Madbouli’s directives, Minister of Agriculture Ezzeddin Abo Setit and the Governor of Luxor Adel Alkhiat are collaborating to reduce the chances of spreading wood-destroying insects.

“The scale of the extensive damages affecting the households of citizens is so alarming and some of those houses are likely to collapse. Quick and effective measures must to be taken rapidly to stop the substantial attacks from occurring,” said Mahmoud Ibrahim, one of the citizens living in the governorate of Luxor.

In another context, the Ministry of Agriculture has formed operation rooms at Egypt’s Veterinary Medicine Directorates to receive citizens’ complaints and intensify its monitoring of veterinary campaigns to the markets of cattle, sheep and goats.

The head of the Central Administration of Public Health and Veterinary Services at the Ministry of Agriculture, Hassan Al Jawini, told Egypt Today that slaughtering services will be available for free at the government’s slaughterhouses to prevent slaughtering in streets to maintain public health.

Meantime, Head of the Central Administration for Veterinary Quarantines Ahmed Abdel Karim said that several veterinary committees with experienced veterans are supervising the live animal imports for Eid al-Adha.
