Egypt’s population hit 93 million on Monday

CAIRO - 23 May 2017: Egypt’s population has reached 93 million individuals by Monday, the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) announced on Tuesday.

CAPMAS’ electronic billboards indicated that the number of citizens living inside Egypt has recorded 93.044 million, where 9.66 million are residing in Cairo, 8.011 million in Giza, 6.85 million in Sharkia and 461,262 in North Sinai.

The number of Egyptians living in the country is accelerating, where the population has jumped from 80 million to 90 million in the past five years, to reach 90 million in December 2015, according to CAPMAS.

Egypt is undertaking this year a national population census, which had begun in 1882 and took place every ten years since then. The census will include data about citizens, residences and unused buildings.
