CAIRO – 31 July 2018: Five members of the terrorist group of Hasm were killed on Tuesday in Qalyubia Governorate according to an official statement issued by the Egyptian Ministry of Interior.

The security authorities revealed that the five fugitive militants were plotting a series of terrorist operations inside Egypt in accordance with instructions they received from the Muslim Brotherhood members who live abroad.

The statement said that the security forces managed to identify the five terrorists and their hotbeds before executing the operations targeting security apparatuses in Egypt.

The militants opened fire on the forces when they approached the building to arrest them, forcing the security personnel to exchange fire with them. Five of the militants were killed, the Interior Ministry's statement said.

The dead were fugitives who were accused of committing terror acts, including an assassination attempt that targeted the Alexandria security chief and a Homeland Security officer in Cairo.

Other five militants of the armed wing of the terrorist group (Hasm) were arrested in an operation that targeted their hideout in Cairo's El-Marg district.

Also, a Hasm warehouse in Cairo's El-Salam district was raided, where various arms were seized.

The Supreme State Security Prosecution was notified to launch a probe, the statement concluded.
