CAIRO - 16 July 2018: The Arab League held on Monday a celebration to mark the golden jubilee of the Arab Permanent Committee on Human rights, which had been established by an Arab ministerial decision in September 1968 to address human rights issues of Arab citizens.

A number of Arab experts who contributed to the work of the permanent committee, representatives of the national organizations of human rights, civil society organizations concerned with human rights as well as the bodies concerned at the Arab League and the United Nations are taking part in the ceremony.

The ceremony is held on the fringe of the 44th regular session of the Arab Permanent Committee on Human Rights which will run for two days.

The agenda of the committee includes discussions on means of confronting the Israeli violations of human rights in the occupied Arab territories, the rights of Arab prisoners and detainees at Israeli jails as well as the return of Arab martyrs' bodies held by the Israeli authorities.

The committee is expected to approve a project on an Arab strategy on human rights as well as the Arab declaration pertaining to rights and responsibilities of individuals and groups in enhancing the basic human rights and freedoms
