CAIRO – 18 May 2017: The family of Real Madrid and Portugal superstar Cristiano Ronaldo, arrived on Thursday at the Red Sea resort Sharm al-Sheikh to attend the opening of the largest water park in the Middle East, whose construction cost reached approximately 500 million EGP.

The water park covers about 80,000 sqm, and includes about five hotels covering 220,000 sqm.

Ronaldo’s family had visited the Giza Pyramids and the Egyptian Museum in Cairo on Wednesday, in the first day of their touristic tour organized by Egyptian businessman Kamel Abo Ali, head of the Red Sea Tourism Investment Association. The Portuguese visitors were accompanied by the chairperson of Egyptian Tourism Promotion Board, Hisham el-Demery.

Abu Ali pointed out that this visit is a message to tourists and investors in all fields from all over the world that Egypt is safe, as Ronaldo’s family is being followed on social media by tens of millions of fans of the player.

In the last few months, Egypt has been attracting international celebrities to support its tourism sector, notably Hollywood American actor Will Smith and Argentinean football star Lionel Messi.

Smith arrived in Egypt along with nine members of his family and visited significant tourist attractions, while Messi came to promote local treatment for Hepatitis C and tourism.
