CAIRO – 3 July 2018: Egyptian Air Forces killed three takfiri elements and arrested 59 criminals and suspects in North and Central Sinai, as part of the “Comprehensive Operation - Sinai 2018,” the army said in a statement on Tuesday.
The General Command of the Armed Forces issued the 25th statement on the outcome of Sinai 2018, launched in February to fight terrorism in North and Central Sinai and other areas in the Nile Delta and the desert areas west of the Nile Valley.
The statement revealed that a number of weapons and ammunition were seized, adding that the security forces spoiled the infiltration of 43 elements via the international borders.
A total of 285 hotbeds, which were full of ammunition, subsistence materials, IEDs, high-explosive materials, computers, cameras, military clothes, money, wireless communication equipment, ten mortars, 200 Kg of TNT and some books calling for takfiri ideologies, were raided and destroyed.
Military engineers detected, dismantled and detonated 10 explosive devices that were planted on various routes to target the troops in areas of operations. Moreover, a number of smuggling tunnels were detected and destroyed by our soldiers in Rafah, North Sinai.
As part of the efforts of the Border Guards, with the help of the tactical formations to secure the borders of the state in all strategic directions, the Border Guards managed to seize 120 rifles, three sniper rifles, 7340 bullet, three million anesthetic pills, and eight SUVs on the western direction.
In cooperation with the Interior Ministry, the Border Guards succeeded to stop a car and arrest three suspects inside it, seizing 17 cell phones, seven satellite phones and 24 vehicles.
The statement reiterated the Armed Forces and police's persistence to uproot terrorism and achieve security and stability for the great people of Egypt.
