CAIRO – 28 June 2018: Multiple people have been shot at The Capital newspaper, which lies in the 800 block of Bestgate Road in Annapolis, Maryland, AP reported Thursday.

The Baltimore Sun, which owns the Annapolis newspaper, says a reporter told them of the shooting Thursday afternoon.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives posted on Twitter that it is responding to reports of the shooting.

On TV reports, people could be seen leaving the building with their hands up, as police officers urged them to depart through a parking lot and officers converged on the building, according to AP.

Anthony Messenger, an intern with the Capital Gazette, also tweeted an S.O.S message during the shooting.

Police confirmed an "active shooter" situation is underway with County Sheriff Ron Bateman confirming one suspect was in custody.

However police are continuing to search the area, indicating a second suspect may be at large.

Fox News quoted a police source as saying “there are multiple fatalities at this location”.
