CAIRO - 28 June 2018: Within the framework of the Ministry of Interior affairs’ efforts to examine the ramifications of the assassination attempt of Alexandria's security director that occurred in March 2018, the security forces managed to raid a hideout of Hasm terrorist movement and kill six terrorists.



The security plan, set to track and prosecute the cadres of the terrorist organization, led to the identification and arrest of one of the elements who executed the assassination attempt, named Moataz Mustafa Hassan Abdallah. A pistol, ammunition and two explosive devices were found in Abdalla's possession upon arrest.

Investigations revealed that Abdallah travelled abroad in 2017 to receive training courses on using weapons and manufacturing explosives.

After an exchange of fire, police officers killed four terrorists. They also managed to arrest Muslim Brotherhood leader, Basem Ibrahim Gad, who transports weapons and explosives to terrorist elements in Alexandria.

In March, the security director of Alexandria survived an assassination attempt, after a massive explosion targeted his convoy at Rushdy district in downtown Alexandria.

Minutes after the attack, the security director Moustafa al-Nemr appeared on TV inspecting the explosion site; the attack resulted in the death of police sergeant Ali Galal and the injury of four others, three of them are policemen, who had been admitted to the military hospital of Moustafa Pasha for medical treat.

The explosion was caused by an explosive device that weighs 8 kg and contains a highly explosive material; the device was placed under a car in front of a hotel at the Roman Camp Street in East Alexandria.As the convoy of the security director was passing, the device was remotely detonated, according to a statement by the Ministry of Interior.
