CAIRO - 18 April 2017: Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry stressed on the significance of Egyptian parliamentarians’ overseas missions to communicate with parliaments of foreign countries, during a meeting with the Parliament’s head of Foreign Affairs Committee, Ahmed Said, Thursday.

Shoukry also emphasized the necessity to coordinate between the ministry and the Parliament in light of the latter’s upcoming delegation to Washington DC, according to a statement by the ministry.

Said expressed his appreciation for the ministry’s efforts, aimed to maintain the supreme interests of the state in the international arena.

The meeting comes in the framework of continuous coordination between the ministry and the Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee to “support the Parliament’s diplomatic activities as one of the most important tools of Egypt’s foreign policy,” Ahmed Abu Zeid, the ministry’s official spokesperson, stated.

A delegation from the Egyptian Parliament is set to head to the United States in May, to visit the Congress and meet with representatives of the U.S. administration. The visit aims at “executing and supporting the results of President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi’s visit (to Washington) and his meeting with American President Donald Trump,” Deputy Head of the Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee Tarek el-Khouly stated early April.
