Cairo International Airport celebrates 54th anniversary

CAIRO – 18 May 2017: Cairo International Airport is greeting arriving and departing passengers with flowers, Thursday, on the occasion of the 54th anniversary of the airport’s inauguration.

Public relations staff is receiving passengers with flowers in terminals 1, 2 and 3, to celebrate the occasion, Head of Cairo Airport Company Magdy Ishak said in a press statement.

Ishak further listed several achievement that have been recently accomplished in the airport, such as installing 200 security cameras, finalizing the renovation of aircraft corridors and inaugurating the newly expanded terminal two to solely accommodate up to 30 million passengers a year.

Egypt’s major international airport and the primary hub for most airlines was inaugurated by former President Gamal Abdel Nasser in March 1963. Primarily consisting of a few arrival and departure halls, one transit hall and two runways with a capacity of five million passengers a year, the airport has kept expanding to accommodate over 65 airlines and over 30 million passengers annually.

Cairo International Airport also received the ISO 9001/2008 quality management system standard certification in August 2016, after an inspection that confirmed the conditions and performance of the airport and ensured its compliance with international standards.
