CAIRO - 31 May 2018: Health Minister Ahmed Emad Eldin Rady decided Thursday to suspend Sohag General Hospital’s director and maintenance workers over the death of a citizen in an out-of-control elevator crash.

The health ministry issued a statement stating that an urgent investigation has been opened as Rady immediately formed a committee from the engineering department to check and assess the condition of elevators in the hospital.

The committee would send a final report to the minister on Thursday, the statement added, promising that negligent officials would be severely punished.

The deceased, 32, was on a visit to his son in the hospital, when the elevator collapsed from the fourth floor.
