CAIRO – 14 May 2017: The former Ethiopian foreign minister, Tedros Adhanom, visiting Cairo on May 13 and 14, received Egypt’s full support as an African candidate for the World Health Organization (WHO) director-general, according to a press release by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday.

Assistant Foreign Minister for African Affairs Mohamed Idris conveyed the greetings and appreciation of Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry to Adhanom. This came as part of his campaign ahead of the final round of elections scheduled on May 23 in Geneva.

Idris informed the Ethiopian former minister of Shoukry’s instructions to the Egyptian delegation in Geneva, which is in close coordination with the African delegations, to support Adhanom. He added that the candidate is experienced and qualified for the post.
