CAIRO – 15 May 2018: On occasion of the 70th anniversary of the 1948 Palestinian exodus, the Palestinian National Liberation Movement, Fatah, on Tuesday said people of Palestine are more determined to struggle for an independent Palestine with Jerusalem as its capital.

In a statement, Fatah added that the Palestinian exodus, or Nakba (catastrophe), will remain a “black mark on the forehead of humanity that allowed such crimes to be committed against Palestinians.”

In an interview with Egypt Today, Fatah spokesman Osama Al-Qawasmi deemed the decision to move the U.S. embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem a manifestly absurd decision that hinders all the peace processes that are being carried out in the region.

He added that the U.S. administration chose not to have any role in the peace process by choosing Israel’s side.

Qawasmi also stressed that the people of Palestine will never give up their land, and that Jerusalem is Palestinian, while any other scenario is utterly rejected. He also added that the U.S. decision and any other scenario.

As for how Israeli forces dealt with marches on the 70th Nakba day, Qawasmi said Israel fears a new Palestinian intifada, so that it targets all Palestinians, creating massacres without the international community moving a muscle against the Israeli violations.

“Israel is trying to impose its occupation and policy over Palestinians, but we will not accept that,” Qawasmi said. “Every day, more will sacrifice their lives for the sake of Palestine, and these marches are just a start.”

Qawasmi pointed out that there are a number of steps that are being taken towards a Palestinian reconciliation that sets Palestine as its main case.

Moreover, he said Egypt, represented in its political leadership, spared no effort in the Palestinian case. He added that there is no peace process without Egypt, which he described as the “older sister that always lends a hand to Palestinians”.

The spokesperson also said he noticed the UN Security Council and the international community turning their backs on Palestine and the Israeli violations and crimes against Palestinians. “More than 50 martyrs were killed by Israel and the international community is only watching, but we will not turn our back on our lands and will not fall back as long as this negligence of Israel’s crimes continues.”

Qawasmi said Palestinians will never be settled with a reality where Jerusalem is Israel’s capital because it is the capital of Palestine and that any peace negotiations about recognizing Jerusalem as the Israeli capital will be rejected.
