CAIRO – 15 May 2018: Al-Azhar Al-Sharif condemned in the strongest terms the terrorist attacks that targeted three churches in Indonesia and left dozens dead and wounded, a Monday statement said.

The statement denounced such terrorist attack that aims for the stability and unity of nations, pointing out that all religions and human principles reject such actions that threaten innocent people.

Al-Azhar expressed confidence that Indonesia is able to defeat terrorism through the tolerance, peace and equality of its people.

Suicide bombings struck churches in a major Indonesian city during Sunday services, killing at least 11 people and wounding dozens.

The bombings at three churches in Surabaya claimed by the Islamic State group were the deadliest in years, as the world’s biggest Muslim-majority country grapples with homegrown militancy and rising intolerance towards religious minorities, according to France24.
