CAIRO - 11 May 2017: The Libyan navy thwarted an illegal migration attempt of 319 persons, including seven Egyptians, in the Mediterranean, 19 miles north Sabratha city, according to a statement by the Libyan naval forces spokesperson, Commodore Ayoub Kassem on Wednesday.

The Libyan naval forces recovered immigrants from the water, after exchanging fire with traffickers, Kassem said, revealing that most of the immigrants are Moroccans ( 277 persons) and the rest are from Tunisia, Syria, Sudan and Nigeria.

Immigrants have been referred to a counter-illegal immigration authority after receiving the necessary medical treatment at Tripoli naval base.
