CAIRO - 10 May 2017: Indian tourist arrivals to Egypt increased by 30 percent in the first quarter of 2017, Chairman of the Egyptian Tourism Promotion Board (ETPB) Hisham el-Demery said in press statements in India on Tuesday.

He said that Indian tourist nights also increased by 185 percent in the same period, adding that Egypt received approximately 80,000 Indian tourists in 2016, and recorded a growth of four percent over 2015.

The ETPB is organizing road shows at four cities in India, namely Mumbai, Delhi, Ahmadabad and Bengaluru from May 8-12, with the aim of interacting with more than 500 Indian travel companies and promoting Egypt as a popular outbound destination.

Road shows were held on Monday in Mumbai at JW Marriott Juhu, attended by a delegation of 10 Egyptian travel trade companies who interacted with travel trade members of Mumbai.

Egyptian Tourism Counselor in Mumbai Ismail Amer said that there was 54 percent increase in Indian arrivals and 205 percent increase in tourist nights in March 2017, compared with last year.

He added that 2017 started with great indications about the growth from the Indian market and that Egypt plans to achieve double digit growth, taking the numbers of Indian tourists to over 120,000 by the end of 2017.

“Indian market is very important for us as we share cultural habitats, history and civilization. With the help of tourism, we aim at consolidating the already strong relationship between two countries,” Demery said in press statements.
