CAIRO – 10 April 2017: A photo posted on social media outlets mocking the leader of a mass hunger strike in Israeli prisons has drawn a wave of anger across Palestinians who are now calling for the worldwide boycott of Pizza Hut.

The international franchise posted a photoshopped still image from a footage released by the Israeli prison service on Sunday, which shows Marwan Barghouti, who is on a hunger strike since April 17, eating in his cell.

A Hebrew message that reads “Barghouti, if you break the hunger strike, why not pizza?” was added to the screenshot after a Pizza Hut box was added to the photo under Barghouti’s bunk bed.

The post sparked the hashtag #Boycott_PizzaHut, criticizing it for “making jokes about hunger strike” and “demeaning people that are fighting for their own survival” according to social media outlets users.
