ABU DHABI - 23 April 2018: The United Arab Emirates has donated AED 258 million (dlrs 70 million) to support the Palestinian people.

The move is in implementation of the directives of UAE President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed al Nahyan.

The two-part aid; the first valued at AED 74 million (dlrs 20 million) will be allocated to the Islamic Waqf Support Program in Al Quds to preserve the Arab-Islamic identity of the city, according to WAM news agency.

The second, valued at AED 184 million (dlrs 50 million) will be dedicated to the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), to support the educational sector in Gaza.

The assistance follows Al Quds summit in Dhahran, which mirrored the unified Arab stance in support of the Palestinian people and highlighted efforts exerted by Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz al Saud in this regard.

It is also a continuation of the UAE's historic efforts in supporting the Palestinian people via the implementation of various projects.

Over the last five years (2012-2017), the UAE has given dlrs 1.68 billion or AED 6.17 billion in assistance towards the cause.
