CAIRO – 21 April 2018: Security forces arrested 21 Zamalek fans, members of Ultras White Knights, over attempting to stage a protest against the club’s president, Mortada Mansour.

Security sources said that the group called on their members to join in a protest on Friday to call for Mansour to step down as the president of Zamalek, as they believe that Masnour is the main culprit of the club’s deterioration since taking office five years ago.

On their official Facebook page, Ultras White Knights described Masnour as a satan that is responsible for the team’s disappointing results.

Earlier, Mortada featured in an official video published on Zamalek’s official website. He stressed that the club is in a real crisis that has not been witnessed throughout its history.

In November, 65 year-old Mansour was re-elected as president of Zamalek after garnering 26,541 votes, while his rival, Ahmed Suleiman, received 16,094 votes, according to the committee that oversaw the election process.

During Mansour's tenure, Zamalek was crowned champions of the Premier League 2014/2015, which was considered a remarkable comeback after a long time of no significant accomplishments.

The popular Zamalek club came third in the last Primer league competition.

Being one of the major and most popular clubs in Egypt, national team players are mostly drawn from Zamalek and Al-Ahly clubs.
