Egypt to receive €20M from EU to support people with special needs

CAIRO – 8 May 2017: The European Union (EU) will provide Egypt with €20 million in aid to support empowerment projects for people with special needs, Ivan Surkoš, head of the EU delegation to Egypt said on Monday.

“The EU launched a total of 36 cooperation programs with the UNICEF to bolster education and enhance equalization of opportunities for people with special needs,” he said in a press conference in Cairo.

Chairperson of Egypt's National Council for Disability Affairs, Ashraf Marey, has expressed his gratitude to President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi who declared 2018 “a year for People with Special Needs.”

Marey added in his speech at the conference that the government has established a committee to develop a strategy for solving the problems of people with disabilities.
