CAIRO – 7 May 2017: Thirty-three families of the victims of Palm Sunday’s terrorist attacks will receive compensation totaling to 3.3 million EGP, announced Minister of Solidarity Ghada Wali.

A total of 100,000 EGP is set to be paid to each family, including 27 families of victims killed in a suicide bombing attack at St. George’s Church in Tanta and six others killed in another bomb at St. Mark Coptic Orthodox Church in Alexandria.

Wali added that the directorates of social solidarity in Alexandria and Gharbia governorates are working on speeding up the disbursement of special pensions approved by the cabinet. The pension for each victim’s family will be 1,500 EGP per month.

The two bombings claimed at least 45 lives and injured more than 100. A total of 40,000 EGP will be paid for each injured person who spent more than 72 hours in the hospital.

The Islamic State group claimed responsibility for the attacks on two churches in Tanta and Alexandria, leaving at least 45 people dead during Palm Sunday celebrations.
