CAIRO – 13 April 2018: President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa of Portugal called on businessmen to invest more in Egypt and search for new economic opportunities inside the country. He urged them to trust in Egypt’s organizations and government.

During his speech at the Egyptian-Portuguese Business Forum, Thursday, April 12, de Sousa said that his country suffered from similar economic troubles as Egypt in the past; however, they managed to overcome them. He said that Egypt is going through a critical turning point but there are many signs of stability.

The Portuguese president praised the two countries’ relations saying that their cooperation is not a “coincidence” as there are a lot of mutual interests between both countries.

De Sousa urged Portuguese businessmen to come, invest and believe in Egypt during the coming period and to take advantage of all available opportunities for investment.

Talking about education in Egypt, de Sousa demanded that the Egyptian government believe in the capability of education and culture in changing the country’s future and emphasized that they should start targeting real sustainable development.

He added that any country’s youth are its real “future”. He also called on all Egyptians to work harder and faster than ever to represent the image they want for their country to the world.

Earlier, President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi received his Portuguese counterpart, de Sousa, in the Presidential Palace of Ittihadyyia. De Sousa is paying a two-day state visit, where he will discuss economic relations enhancement and international and regional issues of mutual concerns.

This is the first visit for a Portuguese president to Egypt in 24 years. De Sousa was elected as president in 2016.
