CAIRO – 7 May 2017: Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry discussed the latest developments in Libya and Syria in a phone call with his UK counterpart Boris Johnson, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a Saturday statement.

Johnson asserted Britain’s keenness to collaborate with Egypt in light of its pivotal role in the Arab region, Egyptian foreign ministry spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid said.

The British Foreign Secretary also kept Shoukry posted on the outcome of the meetings he had held with Libyan officials during his latest visit to Tripoli.

In response, Shoukry emphasized Egypt’s commitment to continuing its efforts at the regional and international levels in order to find a solution to the Libyan political crisis in a way that preserves its unity and independence; thus meeting the Libyan people’s needs and demands.

As for conditions in Syria, the Egyptian top diplomat affirmed Cairo’s support for all efforts aimed at upholding the ceasefire agreement, pointing to Egypt’s firm stance on that particular agreement ever since the outbreak of the Syrian crisis.

Cairo supports the unity and independence of Syria and is keen to end the suffering of the Syrian people, Shoukry said.
