CAIRO -11 April 2018: Aswan Governor Magdy Hegazy announced on Wednesday April 11, the timing of Nasser Lake annual closing, along with all the related details and penalties imposed on fishermen who violate the law.

And here is all you need to know about the annual closing of the largest man-made lake in the world:

- Lake Nasser closes annually in order to increase fisheries.

- The regular timing for closing is usually between March 15 and May 15.

- During 2018, the authorities announced that the annual closing will be between April 15 and June 1.

- All of the fishermen will be banned from fishing in the lake to give the fish a chance to lay eggs.

- During 2017, the annual closing helped the fisheries rate inside the lake to reach 19,000 tons, marking a 53 percent increase.

- About 19 marine units were maintained by the authorities during the lake's closing time in 2017, with a cost of LE 26 million.

- Several authorities collaborate in the annual closing of the lake, including: Aswan governorate, the Marine Police, General Authority For Fish Resources Development, General Authority for High Dam and Fishing associations.

- A supreme committee was formed to supervise 2018’s annual closing, headed by Aswan Governor, Hegazy.

- Presidential Assistant for National and Strategic Projects Ibrahim Mahlab was named as general supervisor for Lake Nasser development.

- The fishing licenses of fishermen who will violate the law will be revoked; those fishermen might also be fined or imprisoned.
