CAIRO – 2 April 2018: Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades congratulated President Abdel Fatah Al-Sisi in a telephone call on his reelection.

Ambassador Bassam Radi, the presidential spokesman, said that Cypriot President wished Egyptians everlasting progress and prosperity. Anastasiades accentuated Cypriot’s keenness to strengthen bilateral relations, and to address issues of mutual concern, Radi added.

Sisi expressed his thanks and appreciation to Anastasiades, according to Radi, affirming special relations between the two nations. Sisi also expressed Egypt’s eagerness to continue cooperation with Cyprus to fulfill mutual interests.

The National Election Authority announced on Monday in a press conference the victory of candidate Abdel Fatah al-Sisi over his sole contender, head of Al-Ghad party Moussa Moustafa Moussa, in the 2018 presidential election.


The National Election Authority Chairman Counselor, Lashin Ibrahim, said during the conference that President Sisi garnered 97.08 percent of valid votes in the presidential election last week, where more than 21.8 million people voted for him.


Moussa received 656,534 votes, making up 2.9 percent of the valid ballots, Lashin said. The turnout stood at 24,254,152 voters of 50,078,138 registered voters, he added.
