CAIRO – 31 March 2018: On Friday, Egyptian Grand Mufti Shawky Allam condemned the Israeli occupation forces’ usage of brutal force to oppress Palestine’s Land Day demonstrations.

In a statement released on Friday, Allam reiterated his support for the Palestinian people’s right to stage demonstrations and protests to reclaim their properties.

He further called on the international community and humanitarian and human rights organizations to support the Palestinians in their decades-long legitimate struggle against the Israeli occupation of their land, stressing that any attempts intended to alter the character, status or demographic composition of Jerusalem have no legal effect and are null and void, and should be rescinded in compliance with the relevant Security Council resolutions.

He concluded by calling on all countries of the Islamic and Arab world and the regional organizations and bodies to intensify their efforts and take advantage of the international rejection of the U.S. president’s earlier move to transfer the American embassy to Jerusalem, as well as resolutions of the General Assembly of the United Nations in order to show an affective solidarity with the Palestinian people.

Thousands of Palestinians launched the “Great March of Return” demonstrations in the besieged Gaza Strip to protest against Israel’s refusal to enable the refugees to exercise the right of return to their pre-1948 lands.
