CAIRO – 27 March 2018: The election process is moving smoothly on the second day of voting in the 2018 presidential election. The operations room at the State Information Service (SIS) is yet to receive any complaints by foreign media at the polling stations, according to the head of the SIS operations room Mohammed Imam.

Imam told Egypt Today that the State Information Service’s operation room continues to communicate with foreign correspondents and help facilitate their media coverage.

More than 13,500 polling stations opened for about 60 million eligible voters to cast their ballots for three consecutive days to elect Egypt's next president.

A run-off round, if needed, is scheduled to take place in April. Otherwise, results will be announced on April 2.

Mahmoud Lasheen, the National Election Authority’s official spokesperson, told Egypt Today that 53 local civic organizations and nine international and Arab organizations were accredited to observe the 2018 presidential election.

Expatriates have already voted between March 16 and 18 in 124 countries. Due to unrest, Libya, Somalia, Syria and Yemen did not hold polls for the 2018 presidential election.
