CAIRO - 3 May 2017: Egypt’s Minister of Religious Endowments Mukhtar Gomaa said that the ministry will publish and distribute three books on a large scale to counter “extremist” thoughts. The books will be available in mosques across Egypt during the holy month of Ramadan.

Gomaa added, in a telephone interview on “ON Live” satellite channel, that extremists’ books have been identified, saying that these books were used to propagate poisonous ideas through distributing them among extremist groups’ members and followers.

Such books were made available to a group of scholars for five months to summarize them and produce a book that refutes the terrorist aberrancies.

Gomaa said that the last chapter of the book provides guidelines on how to protect children from terrorism.

Egypt has recently experienced brutal terrorist attracts against two Coptic churches in Tanta and Alexandria on Palm Sunday, killing at least 45 people. Another attack targeted a security checkpoint on Cairo’s Ring Road, killing three policemen and injuring five others.

In a statement, Al-Azhar strongly condemned the terrorist attacks, stressing on the considerable efforts of the armed and security forces to eliminate terrorism, which hinders Egypt’s progress and stability.

Egypt’s Grand Mufti Shawki Allam also denounced the Ring Road terrorist attack, saying that terrorist and extremist groups are sparing no effort to destabilize security through targeting security forces.
